When I try to install either Woody bf24 or Sarge on my Dell Dimension XPSThe mouse won't be active at this point anyway, so to say the mouse locks up isn't quite accurate.
8250 the keyboard and mouse lock up at the moment after transition from the
text part of the install to the first graphic screen "Choose Language."
Does the capslock light work if you toggle the capslock? Does Alt-F2 have any effect?
I'd pop a Knoppix CD in and boot off that to see if it works, just for information gathering purposes.I searched the archives, and I found the same problem reported by someone with an XPS 8250 six months ago. He had a wireless mouse and keyboard, and was assuming that the problem was there. But I have a standard keyboard and USB mouse, so I would guess that's not the problem. My Video card is an NVidia GeForce4, with 64 MB RAM. (I wrote to him to see if he solved it, but so far no answer).
I tried a number of boot options, including "noacip", "vga16:off", "nofb", "nopcmcia", "noA7xxx...", and just about every other option that I thought might conceivably be related, to no avail.
