Gene, from what you have written in this thread I see nothing wrong in behavior of NetworkManager. Certainly it is easier to continue barking at NetworkManager instead of getting rid of gibberish you put into its config.
Reread this thread from its start. NetworkManager is flexible enough and recipes for tuning of DNS settings have been posted here.
