If it doesn't have any other connection other than WiFi, the firmware installer should still owrk. It does depend on how you copy the firmware across as to whether it works (and for an Intel laptop, you may also need things like sound firmware if it's recent enough) - copying the Debian tarball is one way, I suppose.. USB to Ethernet certainly works - but as we've often seen on this list, people only have WiFi connectivity. A reinstall with the firmware iso will also put the right modules in the right places.
