That was actually fixed in software, and on an older system you'd see something about "F00F bug workaround" in dmesg. At any rate it's a moot point as intel doesn't issue microcode updates for processors more than a few years old; the fact that it's *possible* to update certain ancient processors but not others is no more than a curiosity compared to the fact that neither is updated in practice.
