Pro Git is the name of a well-known book on git that is also available free in HTML and PDF formats. In addition to the basics that can be found in the git man pages, it contains best-practices and big-picture ideas. It may be getting a bit old, but I found Pro Git to be quite useful for inducting co-workers into the use of git. No doubt there are other resources.
