Surely not. But this is a common occurrence in many distros and situations. Not only on Linux, but also *BSDs. There are minimum 2 philosophies to it. Before I adhered to the strict one: remove the dependencies, if required forcibly. Now I tend to look at the sizes of harddisks and ask: why does it bother if you have a few 10s of MB lying around dead. Does it really bother as long as you never start X ?
