Debian testing (bullseye) has the latest version. Instead of compiling from source you could backport it instead. https://wiki.debian.org/SimpleBackportCreation Or just wait until the release, it should be really close now ;) For the next release cycle you could ask for an official backport on debian-backports (with Cc: to the Maintainer).
