Look at brands like GL.iNet - they sell units with OpenWrt installed for as little as ~$20 (802.11n) / ~$40 (low-end 802.11ac). The big problem with OpenWrt, as I was just reminded while searching for easily accesible information about budget OpenWrt routers, is that there's no reliable, comprehensive, up-to-date documentation on currently available models and their OpenWrt compatibility, and so trying to to find the best unit to purchase for ones needs / budget can mean wading through forum threads often full of outdated information (or just asking your own question on the forums). FWIW, I've been using a TP-Link AC2600 with OpenWrt for years, and I've been pretty satisfied with it. Celejar
