Do you suggest an upgrade copying the contents of the /usr partition over to the / partition and dropping the separate /usr (perhaps recovering the space somehow)? Sounds pretty risky. FWIW, I still have a separate /usr on Buster (inherited from older installations). I'd have no problems with a merged /usr, but hey, I have no problems with leaving things as they are either.
