Ok, I noticed that simple-scan uses sane / xsane, so I didn't have high hopes (as h-node found nothing compatible), but I installed it anyway on my Buster system -- no luck: ~"No scanner found". The system with Buster also has Windows 8 (or Vista? -- I forget which) on it, I'll boot into that and see if it works there.
