A difference which may be significant to you is that Debian stable can
always be upgraded in place to the next major version, while even now I
think the advice with CentOS is a fresh installation.

Depending on your application software this may or may not be smooth
and easy (e.g. the last stable dropped support for PHP 5, needing a
fair bit of website maintenance, but that's not a Debian issue), but the
basic OS should upgrade without problems.
