If you use traceroute, make sure to use tcp (traceroute -T or
tcptraceroute) for the probes.  And you should understand how
traceroute works, so you don't flip out if/when you see packet loss
somewhere in the trace.  Routers usually prioritize forwarding traffic
& give a much lower priority to responding with 'time to live expired'
msgs.

In other words, traceroute packet loss at an intermediate hop is not
an indicator of a problem if there is no packet loss further on.
