now there is difference - /media/fde/ + /media/ssda/ In the script portion you pasted it is not visible that the disk is dynamically set tar -czf /media/fde/backups/kbrowsers.tgz How does it comes that you have different in the script and in the output I recall that in debian since some time the mount changed from /media/<disk> to /media/<user>/<disk>
