As far as I can tell the consensus of this thread appears to be that regulars usage of NTFS under Linux is fine (using ntfs-3g). There is limited (if any) experience with writing to NTFS filesystems using more advanced features (e.g. compression), so one might want to avoid doing this without recent and tested backups of the data involved.
