Installing on a GRUB system?

i'm downloading the debian-installer beta.  i intend to install on a 
spare partition on my GRUB-based system.

does debian-installer use GRUB or LILO?

if LILO, can i just skip the LILO installation and add an entry to 
grub.conf instead?
