That is possible, but I'm not going to invest the time in finding out. The purpose of my post was to point out Alexan:der V. Makartsev's use of a post from elsewhere without acknowledgement and indicate Debian's attitude towards startx (without going into detail). I use startx. My users get xdm because they have poor memories for the names of commands and like pretty pictures. -- Brian.
