After downloading https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/i386/iso-hybrid/debian-live-9.0.1-i386-lxde.iso and putting it on a USB stick with unetbootin, the install spuriously stops due to an obsessive excursion to mount a (non-existent) CDROM. The link to the download page says: >> "Hybrid" ISO image files suitable for writing to DVD-R(W) or CD-R(W) media, depending on size, and also USB keys of the appropriate size. << So it does claim to work with USB.
How to keep the install process on the media it has used up to that stage, and install as advertised? An attempt to install ubuntu 16.04, using the same USB/unetbootin method went fine for most of the install, but barfed when trying to write the boot block. So it's not unetbootin which has an unhealthy CDROM obsession. Any clues gratefully received. Erik
