Note that you can change the partition type with a partition editor. It's just the value of a specific byte in the partition table with no further effects whatsoever (excluding some gullible desktop environments, but those believe in file endings too, snark, snark ;) So no need to reformat (not telling you what to do, but if you're still in investigative mood, this would be a candidate).
