Never cared at all for Ubuntu from the very first time I did a test install 10+ years ago? Never understood why it's so popular. Still don't. Enough said. I abandoned the desktop environment a half-dozen years ago in favor of just a window manager and a single panel with menus, etc. KISS Right now I'm looking at Debian-based distros -- AntiX and MX-Linux, a couple others -- as well as a couple non-Debian ones, while avoiding rolling releases. Unfortunately, the more I look, the more it looks like I'm going to have to go with a Basic Install of Stretch, de-systemd it, replace with another init, etc. A lot of work, but that's how it goes. Thanks for your suggestions. B
