Well, that's not true. In fact I do have virtual consoles. On the Mac I need to press ctrl+alt+fn+Fi, where i=1, 2, 3... 6 to get to one of the six vconsoles I have. fn is the key that makes the top row keys act as function keys: http://cdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/macbook-keyboard.jpg As for Joel's question, trying to switch between virtual consoles several times doesn't result in anything--the screen keeps staying black. And it's not the system that *thinks* the screen is off. It is indeed off, as the following command from an ssh session shows: $ cat /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/bl_power 4 bl_power = 4 means the screen is off. I sent a bug report on this issue some weeks ago, but it's not been considered till now, so I wonder whether I sent it to the right place and whether it will ever be considered: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=850221 Cheers, Davide
