(Setup info at end) I am considering upgrading the kernel my stable install to kernel version 4.2 from jessie-backports. The main purpose of this is to see whether it helps with the problem I have been having with sound.
*My question is* : how much / what do I risk breaking in doing this? (daud@debian:~$ uname -a Linux debian 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt20-1 (2015-11-19) x86_64 GNU/Linux) daud@debian:~$ cat /etc/debian_version 8.2 daud@debian:~$ gcc --version gcc (Debian 4.9.2-10) 4.9.2 * Non-free firmware installed = firmware-iwlwifi & firmware-realtek It's an efi install - only Debian is installed. I have just tried out the Knoppix 7.6 live distro, which has kernel 7.2.2 & sound plays out of the box in that.
