If you are using hardware virtualization support, I recommend using KVM.
Linux packages in Debian have already compiled the support for KVM. You
only need to install the user-space tool to manage virtual machines.

# aptitude install qemu-kvm


To find out if your processor supports virtualization extensions:

# egrep '(vmx|svm)' --color=always /proc/cpuinfo


You should also check that virtualization is enabled in the BIOS.
