First these is how I finally get them in:
% gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings overrides
"{'Gtk/ButtonImages': <0>, 'Gtk/MenuImages': <1>}"
Correspondingly if you set the value of Gtk/MenuImages to 0 you should
get rid of them.
I just wonder how come you get them in Jessie and did not?
