I found this out rather recently when I was reading the debian users' guide. When I lost my root password (it had a GBP-sign in it and my locales changed on an upgrade), I took the more long-winded approach of booting from a rescue disk and copying my users' hash over the top of the root one. It was a *lot* longer as I had to find a cd-rom drive and install it, too- needless to say I read the docs first now. -- Jon Dowland http://jon.dowland.name/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
