Could it be closing because the open sensor is defective or not properly aligned or the drawer reaches the mechanical hard stop? Then, maybe the motor detects it as a over-current and closes the drawer the way it does when you push it manually. The delay seems a bit long for such an action though. I would expect the drive to give up much sooner if the drawer doesn't open wide enough to its liking...
