I think that this particular instance, is a matter of wording not being clear and unambiguous. She was the boy who owned Lassie's mom." wherein, I believe the second sentence, instead of indicating that Cloris Leachman played the role of a boy that had been the owner of the dog that was the mother of Lassie, should have indicated that Cloris Leachman played the mother of the boy that had owned Lassie.
