Sorry, my answer was misleading and likely incorrect for this situation. "service" _is_ quite capable of doing the right thing, so if it doesn't stop mpd, the issue is in the mpd package. OTOH, "invoke-rc.d" really is buggy in that regard, so if the issue shows up during package updates/removals, it is invoke-rc.d's fault for not stopping the socket service. -- "One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them.
