The 15" one (the Debian 6 LTS one with which the external monitor works), has an nVidia GEForce GT520M. I was wrong (although I doubt that it affects this problem) - the CPU in that system, is an i5, not an i3. The 17" one (the Debian 7 one with which the external monitor does not work), has an NVidia GEForce GT750M. -- Bret Busby Armadale West Australia ..............
