I completely purged iceweasel, its configs as well as mozilla's, etc.,
etc. Reinstalled, etc.  Still no joy.  I think Yahoo's server "sees"
Linux and thinks it must be a mobile device and switches automatically
"to improve your Yahoo experience."  Right.  Big improvement.  Well,
maybe.  I don't use Yahoo anymore.  Beginning to like not using it. ;-)

What I'd really like to know is why ONLY iceweasel and firefox are
affected. Google-Chrome isn't.  Probably not Opera, but I haven't
checked.  Haven't gotten around to installing it.  I figured one
backup browser was enough. ;-)
