Suggestions to use unetbootin are well-intentioned but misguided. The i386 and amd64 images are fantastically easy to write to a USB device using the Debian recommended technique. There have been no known failures. If there were it would be fixed. Failures using unetbootin are not unknown. Very few people are going to put any effort into tracking them down.
