links in alternatives and setting paths. It's blooming magic. I too

But it is not for Debian!, even if it works it doesn't mean that it
is a good idea to inlcude ubuntu ppa-s into debian.

I personally stick to rraptor: https://github.com/rraptorr/oracle-java7
All it does is fetch Oracle Java, straight from Oracle and install it.
Then it updates alternatives and your browser. THAT is the major benefit
of it, that you don't have to bleed from your eyeballs trying to do all
of that on your own. That much is pretty much standard between Ubuntu,
Debian, Mint, etc. It does not install anything else from that ppa, just
a script that does what it does. Keep in mind that many do not even know
of the existence of alternatives. Plus, it will auto-update to the
latest Java version in the usual apt-get update apt-get upgrade session.
Or, continue to use the brass-knuckles method of installing Oracle Java
on your own. Hint: You will never get alternatives set correctly, unless
you are a real dyed-in-the-wool guru. I just checked out the how-to for
java-package. That appears to be a lot of work. I'll stick with the
method I use. I never have to touch it. Ric
