You get me in a mood to riff on Microsoft and security, and I'll rail on them as much as anyone. (More than most.) But it's not the tech. MSWindows 7/8, if you are willing (And most don't _feel_ secure unless they do.) to use Semantics's packaged "security" products, you can get as good results as using Linux without understanding security. If you friends understood security, you would not be having to lead them by the hand. Not that leading them by the hand is a bad thing, just be sure to expect a certain percentage of disappointment in this project. But if you can manage it, do have an install party. You can even tell those who are not brave enough to install on their own hardware to come and watch the fun. Have people bring food, of course. Maybe even set up a largish monitor to be playing stupid 'nix tricks from youtube. Even if they can't quite figure out what to do with Linux, it'll be a great opportunity to socialize and it may provide the sort of good-feeling reinforcement that would lead some of them to try again later. -- Joel Rees Be careful where you see conspiracy.
