The correct way to upgrade is, unfortunately, 3.0->4.0->5.0->6.0->7.0->7.4. If the file /etc/resolv.conf is a symlink, then it's possible that the package "resolvconf" is updating it. In that case, you can add "dns-nameservers 10.0.0.2 10.0.0.5" to your interface stanza in /etc/network/interfaces.
