No, it just returns without doing anything.

Don't know. I just did "aptitude install xfce4 xfce4-goodies
xfce4-power-manager" and then used "XFCE" session in GDM.
xfce4-power-manager is installed and running.
Not sure what gdmflexiserver has to do with it (it just opens a new GDM
login screen).
