Hi all,

I understand and agree with the argument for having separate logs for different services, as it makes troubleshooting individual servcies much easier - in most cases.

However, I also would like to have *one* log that *everything* goes to, because in many cases it makes it much easier to see at a glance if there is a problem - at least on systems that aren't extraordinarily busy.

So, does debian have a single log (in gentoo, everything is logged to /var/log/messages, then you can also send individual services to separate logs as well)?

The reason I'm asking is, I can't seem to find where sshd is logging (I'm having someone remote in and help me with something, but can't find any record of him having been there yesterday)...

Appreciate any pointers...
