I have chosen the black (with white border) cursor scheme, with 48 point cursor size. See: Settings -> Mouse and Touchpad -> Cursor size
The cursor is mostly satisfactory, including over xfce4-terminal, except: When the cursor is over an xterm, the vertical bar "text" cursor is normal tiny (small) size, and not 48 point size (like when it's over xfce4-terminal).
