Debian can be used with older CPUs, than *buntus can. Most i686 and later processors are still supported" - https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/installation-guide/i386/hardware-supported.html In the past Edubuntu provided a combination of nice software. http://www.edubuntu.org/ nowadays seems to use Unity, but another *buntu could be installed and after that the Edubuntu meta packages, so assumed the processor shouldn't be an issue, than this is an advantage of *buntu.
