-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello,
Just like every day, I turned on my Debian Squeeze machine this morning. While I don't think I asked for upgrade yesterday, it appears something has changed in the system. The X server won't boot. In place, after all the booting process, I'm left with many == [drm:drm_crtc_helper_set_config] *ERROR* failed to set mode on crtc f5fec000 [drm] nouveau 0000:01:000: no space while disconnecting DAC [drm] nouveau 0000:01:000: no space while hiding cursor [drm] nouveau 0000:01:000: no space while blanking crtc == As the X server does not start, I booted in recovery mode (X server does not start neither). Anyway, I checked the Xorg log in recovery mode, which contains, at the end: == (EE) NOUVEAU(0): failed to set mode: Invalid agument == Typing startx or xinit results in (after traditional messages): == sh: /usr/bin/xkbcomp: not found (EE) Error compiling keymap (server-0) (EE) XKB: Couldn't compile keymap XKB: Failed to compile keymap Keyboard initialization failed. This could be a missing or incorrect setup of xkeyboard-config. Fatal server error: Failed to activate core devices. xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error. == I therefore wanted to install x11-xkb-utils, which contains xkbcomp. However, x11-xkb-utils is already installed. Therefore, xkbcomp should, but I however get == # /usr/bin/xkbcomp No such file or directory == I saw on various forums that == [drm:drm_crtc_helper_set_config] *ERROR* failed to set mode on crtc f5fec000 [drm] nouveau 0000:01:000: no space while disconnecting DAC [drm] nouveau 0000:01:000: no space while hiding cursor [drm] nouveau 0000:01:000: no space while blanking crtc == was probably linked due to a lack of free disk space. However, df tells me I've only used 23 % of capacity; there is still lot of free space for /. This could also be due to a permission problem, but /var/tmp and /tmp permissions are OKAY (did a chmod 1777 meanwhile in order to be sure). I tried with another kernel (being given GRUB choices), to no avail. Removing x11-xkb-utils (in order to install it after) removes gnome, gdm, etc., so I would prefer avoiding that (and I'm even not sure it would solve the issue). I also tried disconnecting the keyboard, but it changes nothing. I also tried Xorg -configure then reboot, but that does not change anything. Is there a solution to that problem?
