Or because it's a dependency of gnome-core. I removed gnome-core (having
unmarked-auto its other dependencies), and removed pulseaudio - no joy.
Reinstalled it - still no joy. Crude, I know, but I'm still trying to
find decent info. One possibility is to blow it all away and do a fresh
install instead of an upgrade ...
