Just for the sake of being clear, LILO does not change anything in the kernel, it just passes parameters to the kernel and then, when the kernel has been completely loaded, LILO has nothing to do hereafter.
Right, except that before booting the kernel, LILO can set the video mode (e.g., 60 x 132 characters instead of just 24 x 80) before booting the kernel.
