Hi, Prompted by another thread on this list, I decided to check my drive's Load_Cycle_Count, and it seems that my drive is living on borrowed time:

A few questions: 1) Why would it be so high? 2) What should I do to attempt to preserve whatever life it has left? hdparm -B 254/255? Anything else? The machine is a Thinkpad T61, the drive a Hitachi HTS722010K9SA00. I bought the machine refurbished about a year and a half ago, and while I obviously don't know how it was used in its first career, I believe that my usage has been pretty normal - the machine is on and in use for much of the day, with a fairly typical user workload. I usually hibernate it when I won't be using it for a while. Over the last day or so, I've been checking the load cycle count and it's apparently gone up by 482 over about ten hours, during which time the machine was in hibernation for about eight of them, in active use for about half an hour, and idle the rest of the time.
