I will try all your suggestions and report back. Unfortunately, this will happen in about 12 hours only, since I have no access to that network right now. I can access the files, but thanks for the suggestion of sftp, which did not occur to me. I think I have tried the 'ssh -t' but I don't recall the effect I saw. More on that when I tried it.
