Dear Michael. I thought of another approach.
Could I get the HPLaserJetP1102w to work as a network printer ? If the answer is yes, would the various printers connected to the network still face the same problem, or do they just see the network ? I tried the HP we site, and it eventually said that the printer was not supported on Debian squeeze. On my wife's machine, the printer is not supported on Ubuntu 12.04. My HPPhotosmart 5510, which is inkjet rather than a laser printer, is not so difficult, and is also network capable. Perhaps I should go away and study network printing. Best regards.
