It should be handled (added) automatically by the calendar, at least that's what happens with "iceowl-extension". Do you have the ".ics" mimetype associated to IceOwl? P.S. Consider a replacement for IceOwl (Sunbird) because AFAICT is not being maintained upstream anymore.
