So, I did $sudo parted /dev/sdb GNU Parted 2.3 Using /dev/sdb Welcome to GNU Parted! Type 'help' to view a list of commands. (parted) mklabel msdos (parted) quit Information: You may need to update /etc/fstab. Even after this, I get the following error if I go back to gparted and try to create a new partition. $sudo gparted /dev/sdb ====================== libparted : 2.3 ====================== /dev/sdb: unrecognised disk label I also upgraded to the latest kernel but that did not solve much. $uname -a Linux kusumanchi.mae.cornell.edu 3.2.0-3-686-pae #1 SMP Mon Jul 23 03:50:34 UTC 2012 i686 GNU/Linux thanks raju -- Kamaraju S Kusumanchi http://malayamaarutham.blogspot.com/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
