Hi,

I'm sorry, I missed that point. Unfortunately I don't have any
experience with netinst: I usually install a very basic system from CD,
then I configure the network and apt and get all the remaining software
from mirrors. Maybe this is not the best solution, but I feel that it
gives me complete control.
Anyway:

Module (driver) names are on the left column: it seems that your device
needs the ipw2200 module. It also requires firmware-ipw2x00 (non-free)
as you can see in the other link you posted:
http://wiki.debian.org/ipw2200
The module is already provided by the kernel, whereas the firmware has
to be downloaded from a non-free mirror repository (or easily from
Debian's website):
http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=firmware-ipw2x00
I'm quite sure that this firmware is not included in your netinst:
releasing Squeeze, Debian took off the kernel all non-free stuff.
First of all, you should check what's actually happening when netinst
hangs, as Brian suggested:

Maybe it's automatically loaded.

As I said, I don't have knowledge of netinst, but I guess it provides
all basic tools in order to manually load the firmware from a pen
drive, (re)load kernel modules and configure your network manually.
Then see if your connection if working.
All the best,
Andrew
