You didn't specify which mode (client, AP, etc.), but Atheros chipsets are usually quite well supported and don't need additional firmware. Intel chipsets generally have good drivers, but do require separate firmware (which will make installing over WiFi more difficult), and may not suport AP (Master) mode.
