Master is max and unmuted, good > Simple mixer control 'PCM',0 > Capabilities: pvolume penum > Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right > Limits: Playback 0 - 255 > Mono: > Front Left: Playback 255 [100%] [0.00dB] > Front Right: Playback 255 [100%] [0.00dB] PCM is max (no mute control), good > Simple mixer control 'Front',0 > Capabilities: pvolume pswitch penum > Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right > Limits: Playback 0 - 64 > Mono: > Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [-64.00dB] [on] > Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [-64.00dB] [on] For 'Front' you have 0 volume, you should max it as well. I just can't hear it. Ok, let 'speaker-text -c2' run in a terminal and try adjusting the 'Front' control. Make sure your speakers or headphones or whatever are connected and any volume control turned at least half way up. If this is a laptop make sure to also play with any dedicated volume control on it. These are sometimes not connected to the alsa volume controls. Also beware that I've seen two types of mute controls on laptops: 1. toggle (press again to unmute) 2. zero-volume (press volume up several times to increase the level again) You got it right when you hear hissing (pink) noise alternating from the left and right speaker/headphone/etc. Hope this helps, Andrei -- Offtopic discussions among Debian users and developers: http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/d-community-offtopic
