You have a laser printer, right? The HP 2200 DTN is laser, isn't it? hpijs is for ink jet printers, (ij = i(nk) (j)et) so what you have seen empirically makes perfect sense because we wouldn't expect the ink jet driver to work well with a laser printer, unless I'm not understanding something (always a possibility). The PCL XL print stream corruption errors you were getting can also be caused, other than by a driver mismatch, by the hardware between the pc and printer (bad cables, etc.) but I guess the problem's fixed and you don't need to look in that direction.
