YMMV. I have SuperMicro boards that do not boot when using RAM modules 
which only differ from the serial number, go figure :-/

Again, that's usually true for standard/user targeted boards but there 
are manufacturers that are more "picky" with this, mostly when it comes 
to motherboards aimed to a professional/high-end sector.
